Refresh & UX Audit of the IPL Mobile App

Project Overview

Whilst at Pulselive I was tasked with a redesign of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) native apps, both iOS and Android. The main goals of this project were to update the UI with new brand guidelines and to improve overall user experience by conducting UX research and a UX audit of the existing app.

1. Project Goals

  • To perform an UX audit and user testing on current apps.
  • Raise issues from the audit and testing.
  • Implement changes in the app to address these issues.
  • Refresh the visual approach to the app with new branding.

2. Design Process

UX Audit and Research

I worked alongside a UX researcher to perform the UX audit and user testing, we used a task based method and tested on the current build of the app.

The UX audit brought up a few key issues to address -

  1. Content and page structure was confusing and intuitive for users,
  2. Over complicated menu, with too many menu items.
  3. The app landing screen did not display what the majority of users were looking for.

Design Solutions

  • Collaborating in a UX audit and user research stages alongside user researchers.
  • Designing on a new IA to simplify the app structure and menu layout.
  • Designing user flows and wireframes to address app structure issues and layout of landing pages.
  • Designing final visuals to incorporate the new visual style and brand, and to improve UI issues such as the overcomplicated navigation.

3. Results

All the key issues from the UX audit were addressed and improved, ongoing testing to monitor will be done once the app is launched. Visually the new brand colours and styles were added with a fresh update to the UI.
