Social Sharing Feature on Discovery+

 

Project Overview

Discovery+ is a global streaming service within the Warner Bros. Discovery brand. I was tasked to lead the product design of a new feature, social share only on mobile and tablet devices. This feature would allow users to access the native share function on iOS and Android to share movies and tv shows with friends via message, whatsapp, email or social media.

1. Project Goals

  • Seamlessly integrate the sharing native function into the Discovery+ app.
  • Follow Discovery+ design principles and language to create a coherent experience for our existing user base.

2. Design Process

Exploration and Discovery

A competitor analysis of Disney+ user journeys for social share was conducted to analysis how their share function worked. This was tested across Android and iOS (native social sharing differs) and also looking at multiple user journeys.

After this analysis was conducted, user stories were defined, and user flows created following the native function on each platform, these were then workshopped with tech and product to refine these flows.

Designs and Prototypes

High fidelity designs and prototypes were then created to align with the current Discovery+ design system and guidelines.

3. Results 

This feature sadly was never launched due to the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+. But, the design work was taken on and adapted for the new combined streaming product, Max.
